Battle Winner The 4onthefloor Rocks Varsity Theater

Friday, March 4th – The Varsity Theater was hopping with IPR students and a whole lot of gritty music fans. They were gathered to watch the final three competitors battle for a slot to perform at VitaMn Magazine’s Are You Local?, South By Southwest (SXSW)  stage. Jeremy Messersmith, Ben Weaver, and Phantom Tails will share the stage with battle winner The 4onthefloor.

According to band member Gabriel Douglas, The 4onthefloor are a Minneapolis based, blues / rock quartet with an affinity for the kick drum.  All four members play their own kick drum, mostly in unison, and it looks and sounds really cool live.  Douglas said, “When the venue has the capability we definitely mic all the bass drums…. We want the crowd to be captivated.”  And we were…. The 4onthefloor sound is huge: edgy, fat, riff-based guitar rock. These guys are a blast to watch!

Kudos as well to the other 2 finalists in this competition: MC Longshot, and Pictures of then.  Please be sure to check out the provided links to learn more about these great local artists.

The battle Are You Local? had several sponsors, including The Institute of Production and Recording (IPR).  IPR Business Program Chair, Eric Trelstad, teaches a SXSW course which concludes with a student trip to the event in Austin, TX. Class tuition covers travel and lodging, and students are exposed to a world class conference for music, media, and entertainment business where they will practice the art of networking.

IPR students Stephanie Mencheski, Roxie Schwochart, Dan Straub, Guy Tarrents, and Dakota Warner volunteered at the event.  Additionally, IPR student , Youa Vang,  served as a featured judge for the competition.  Thanks for all your hard work!
