IPR Students Organize Drive for Youth Shelter

This month the IPR Global Citizenship class is organizing Bridge to Music,  a donation drive to collect musical instruments and related gear for The Bridge for Youth, a homeless shelter for teens here in Mpls. Founded in 1970 by Sister Rita Steinhagen, the Bridge was opened in Minneapolis’ West Bank neighborhood and was one of the nation’s first shelters for runaway and homeless young people. In 1975, The Bridge relocated to its current location in the East Isles neighborhood of Minneapolis. In the years since its inception, The Bridge has helped tens of thousands of youth and families in crisis.

A few students from IPR recently interviewed the Director at Bridge for Youth to learn more about the organization, check out the video:

Currently, The Bridge is in need of musical equipment. The facility has set aside a room that is dedicated to music. Unfortunately, the music room contains only one  lonely guitar/amp combo.

Students in the IPR Global Citizenship class have a vision to build a ”Bridge To Music” by donating new or used Instruments to the center. We are asking for fair condition gear, books, instruments, or any other performance related gear. We want to make sure all items donated are related to music. Remember, something collecting dust at our homes that has no value to us could be very valuable to someone else who doesn’t have much. Go to the lab office to donate instruments and gear,  or see our GoFundMe to make a cash donation.
