Important parking updates and information

With Target Field in operation, local parking facilities may update their policies to accommodate game-day parking.  Some contract parking will only be valid weekdays from 6am-6pm, resulting in additional hourly or event charges after 6pm. Because policies vary, be sure to ask your parking facility for contract details to avoid unwanted confusion.

Please remember that there is no parking reserved for students at IPR!
Metered Parking is located along Washington Ave and most side streets. You can usually get 12 to 15 minutes per quarter. Be careful, you will almost always get a ticket if you are parked for longer than you paid for! Active meter hours are usually Monday through Friday from 8am-6pm. The rest of the time you may park for free for any length of time at the meters (but make sure to check your specific meter for times – they may vary).
Nearby Ramps & Parking Lots
Union Plaza (Super Saver & Rapid Park) – 612.349.2741 – is a lot located across the street from IPR at 333 Washington Ave N. Rates are $1/hour and $94/month for permit parking, weekdays 6am-6pm. Parking is often on a waiting list, so the sooner you can call before your start date, the better!

Fourth Street Garage (ABC Ramps) – 612.376.0090 – is 3 blocks away with entrances on N. 3rd Avenue and N. 2nd Avenue. Rates are $5.75/day when parked before 9am, $10/day (24 hours) and $123/month.

Designer’s Guild Ramp – 612.332.5000 – is located on N. 5th Avenue, 2 blocks from IPR. Rates are $97/month after tax. Contract parking not valid after 6pm during Twins home games.

WW Parking Lots - 763.553.0266 – is about 3 blocks from IPR at 90 2nd Ave N., by the Federal Reserve Bank building. Rates are $4/day and $70/month for permit parking, weekdays 6am-6pm.

WW Parking Lots – 763.509.9999 – is about 2 blocks from IPR at Washington Avenue N. & 2nd Avenue N. Rates are $100/month for permit parking, weekdays 6am-6pm.

Loop Parking – 612.339.1887 – is 6 blocks away, at 900 Washington Ave N. Rates are $1/hour, $4/day and $88/month.

Create a video game inspired album!

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

WHY:  Tommy Tallarico, video game audio pioneer and creator of Video Games LIVE, has agreed to play it before the Video Games LIVE concert begins on Saturday April 10, at 8:00.

WHAT:  A digital album composed of student-submitted video game-inspired songs. Student Run Records will release the album for free online. Ideally, album content would highlight interpretations across multiple genres and showcase the multi-talented student body.

HOW:  Students will create and mix songs inspired by a specific video game(s) of their choice. Students will submit songs at weekly Game Night meet-ups, Wednesdays at 6:00PM in the Student Lounge, and critique each other. Faculty members will also be on-hand to lend years of professional advice on the songs and mixes.

WHEN:  Submissions may begin immediately. Preferred deadline on Friday March 26, but ultimately the album needs to be completed prior to the Video Games LIVE concert on Saturday April 10 @ 8pm. Once the project begins, weekly goals and milestones will be set and progress will be communicated to the appropriate management.

This needs to shine. Coupled with IPR’s new video game curriculum this quarter, and the additional hands-on industry class next quarter, we could make a big splash this Spring. There’s no reason we can’t make this more than just an album of songs. Let’s create artwork for each song. Let’s include “making of” footage. Maybe also add session files, if the artists allow. Let’s make this HUGE!

STATEMENT BY WYCLEF JEAN ON HAITI EARTHQUAKE

DateWednesday, January 13, 2010 at 02:05PM

“Haiti today faced a natural disaster of unprecedented proportion, an earthquake unlike anything the country has ever experienced.

The magnitude 7.0 earthquake – and several very strong aftershocks – struck only 10 miles from Port-au-Prince.

I cannot stress enough what a human disaster this is, and idle hands will only make this tragedy worse. The over 2 million people in Port-au-Prince tonight face catastrophe alone. We must act now.

President Obama has already said that the U.S. stands ‘ready to assist’ the Haitian people. The U.S. Military is the only group trained and prepared to offer that assistance immediately. They must do so as soon as possible. The international community must also rise to the occasion and help the Haitian people in every way possible.”

Many people have already reached out to see what they can do right now. We are asking those interested to please do one of two things: Either you can use your cell phone to text “Yele” to 501501, which will automatically donate $5 to the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund (it will be charged to your cell phone bill), or you can click here to DONATE.

www.yele.org

Thank you,
Wyclef
