Through the month of October, IPR will be advocating a book drive for an organization called First Book. For over 20 years First Book has provided 70 million books to programs serving children in need across the United States and Canada. They deliver new books to children in an effort to address one of the most important factors affecting literacy – access to books. By providing new books to children in preschools and after-school programs, mentoring and tutoring programs, shelters and day care centers and beyond, First Book provides resources to empower teachers and administrators. With access to high-quality books, educational materials and more, these caring leaders can better teach, plan curriculum and impart a love of learning, elevating the quality of the programs and opportunities available to children in need.
IPR’s goal is to collect at least 500 gently used books and collect $250 to purchase new books. For every $10 dollars that is donated 5 new books will be purchased for a child in need. So if IPR earns $250 in donations and collects 500 gently used books, that equals 625 books for children within our local community. Please help us reach that goal with a pledge of any amount or by simply donating a book.
You may drop off gently used books at the plastic totes located in IPR’s GreenRoom Café or the Student Lounge. You will also find two pledge jars on campus. One will be located at the front guest reception desk and the other will be located on Tina’s desk in the library. If you wish, you may make a pledge online with a credit or debit card at http://www.firstbook.org/booksforkeeps/ipr_book_drive. Simply “Join the Team” at that web address and donate any amount. Following the event, IPR will send out a brief recap of the book drive to update all of those who donated.
