Friday March 4th was IPR’s quarterly Battle of the Beats. If you haven’t been to this event in the past I highly recommend attending one. The atmosphere was electric. Smiling faces, laughter and good music filled the air. Some of IPR’s most talented producers competed in this single elimination showdown in order to be crowned champion. There was a huge turn out of students, faculty, friends and family. The competition was hosted by Student Service Coordinator Joe Sadowski and featured DJ Mello J on the 1’s and 2’s. Judging the battle were industry professionals Mod Sun, Beanie and Bona Phide. Competition was stiff amongst the 14 contestants. All of the competing producers had stunning compositions, but in the end, only one could be named champion. This time it went to Mark Weyandt. His razor sharp breaks and crisp sound won over the judge’s ears taking multiple unanimous decisions through out the battle. Honorable mentions go to Jake Astle aka SK, Zack Perl, and B-RadG for taking places 2-4. All producers were gracious in their wins as well as their defeats. It was truly an epic battle. Be on the look out for the next installment of this competition that takes place this June 3rd. You won’t want to miss it.
