IPR Sends Students to South By Southwest Media Conference in Texas

MINNEAPOLIS (February 27, 2017) – Students at IPR–College of Creative Arts will be getting some real-world experience in the field with a trip to South By Southwest Conference & Festivals (SXSW) in Austin, Texas from March 12 – 19.

Nine students with film, music, and entertainment business backgrounds will be making new connections, asking industry professionals questions, and seeing new upcoming artists as they participate in one of the largest music and movie conferences in the world.

This year’s group has been preparing for the event since the start of Winter Quarter at IPR. They have been designing business cards for networking, cleaning up their social media feeds and creating a medium for documenting the event. Each student has published a written or video blog in the weeks leading up to the festival. They will also continue to document their experiences on a daily basis while in Austin.

“Music and film festivals are of tremendous value to emerging talent in the creative world. The education and the networking broaden your perspective of the industry,” said Trey Wodele, Associate Dean and instructor at IPR. “By experiencing their first major festival as a part of school, they learn how to take full advantage of the experience. We spend 10 weeks planning, researching, and making certain that we are hitting all of the right panels, seeing all of the best shows, and taking in the important films.”

SXSW features sessions, showcases, screenings exhibitions, and a variety of networking opportunities. IPR has been sending students to SXSW for at least six years.
