New IPR Talent: Laura Benda – Service Learning Coordinator

Please join me in welcoming Laura Benda to the IPR team! She has been hired to Instruct as well as fill the new roll of Service Learning Coordinator. Laura is an accomplished Writer and Journalist with a unique, creative skillset. She’s a great fit for IPR! Here’s a little more about her:

Originally from Rochester, Minn., Laura received her undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in magazine journalism.  After a nine month, ill-fated move to Atlanta, she returned to Minnesota to begin her career with Agri News (a weekly agricultural publication). Her primary responsibilities included reporting, writing, shooting photos, as well as some editing and layout work. The subject matter wasn’t always thrilling, but the job gave her real world journalism experience, and it taught her a newfound respect for farmers.

Laura also worked as an education reporter, moved on to be an assistant manager, and, finally, a managing editor before deciding to write freelance.

Her next stop? Graduate school.  This December she will wrap up her master’s degree in creative writing from Hamline University, where she also studied composition rhetoric and pedagogy. She plans to continue teaching and working with students at IPR; we’re very happy to have her.
