I think I missed the point where my brain hit information overload last week. When this happens, my brain becomes one with the internet and all its multi-media glory. A vision of green 1’s and 0’s, Matrix style, planted on the backs of my eyelids and made it difficult to sleep, but it’s Monday, and I’m back at it with a refreshed human perspective.
Below is last week’s your weekly article recap….
The best responses I saw last week were connected with this review: T-pain effect software by iZotope. When I first read this article I wasn’t sure what to think. I mean, T-Pain is doing his thing, and he has a very definitive sound, without question, but I had to ask myself “do we really need even one more young artist using auto-tune the way T-Pain does?” And it turns out that iZotope thinks so. The more I chewed on the idea, I decided that this might be a great tool for seasoned producers and mix engineers, and it probably does some pretty trippy stuff, but, I hope the young producers don’t overdo it.
Lefsetz makes my list again with his piece about authenticity. This one seems to be a part of a much larger ongoing conversation within the blogosphere. Two related blog posts you might want to read in context of this one are Kevin Bowe’s latest, and one that I posted recently here.
I read last week that record labels are preparing to fight the law that allows artists to reclaim rights to their works at the 35 year mark as long as they apply for them 2 years in advance. The last little technicality of “2 years in advance” was probably a provision added by labels back when the law was put on the books. The argument labels are preparing to make is that artists’ material are actually works for hire. This is a pretty tough case to make. Check out the article here, and take a look at today’s IPR Facebook posts; I’ve linked an update to this article there.
There are lots of other cool articles from last week listed below as well; please browse at your leisure and remember to comment on any of this stuff below. I’d love to hear what you think.
Thanks,
Christian
