Though it is possible to open check accounts online or over the phone, if you are new to the process it is best to go in to the bank and meet with a representative.
Wells Fargo
Wells Fargo has more than 3,000 locations in 23 states with 6,550 ATM’s. Barron’s magazine has declared it the “world’s most admired financial services company”.

To open a student checking account at Wells Fargo you need a state issued ID, such as a driver’s license, and your student ID. If you are an international student, you need to provide proof of permanent residence. You will also need to put down a $100 deposit which you will be able to withdraw after a 24 hour hold.
Wells Fargo also offers a low limit credit card to students who have little or no credit to help them build a positive credit history. After a time of keeping the account in good standing, the student will be eligible for a card with a higher limit.
